Welcome to my Second Wind Website and new Blog!
In my first ever ‘Blog of Blogs’, I would like to start with a brief, personal introduction, for those who do not know me, while updating and connecting with those who do.
My name is Danielle Bélec-van Zeyl. I have spent most of my life working and playing around, with “movement” – a broad category that includes an action-filled sports life, from childhood to present, a decade as a professional contemporary dancer, and an ongoing profession as master teacher of functional exercise and somatic movement.
I am a natural synthesizer. I delight in combining learning and wisdom from many places to provide the skills and flexibility required to help you adapt to the changing needs and trajectories of your lives.
I have trained and certified in a number of modalities over the course of my life. I am a certified Pilates Instructor through The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), having studied in Canada, the United States, and England. I am a certified Laban Movement Analyst (CMA), accessing the work of Rudolf Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff, and I am a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner, as well as craniosacral therapist.
I have created a movement therapy system called Integrated Movement Therapies (IMT)®, which forms the foundation of the Second Wind Method and my unique approach to teaching and serving. I have undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Toronto, York University, and Université de Quebec à Montreal.
The Second Wind Method …
is a unique blend of current research in human anatomy, biomechanics, and neuroscience designed to ignite your movement ‘ability’, body awareness and joy of living. The work is the culmination of my many years as an athlete, professional dancer, academic, and sixteen-year creator and Director of Second Wind® Pilates Plus® (1999-2014).
When I work with clients, I adapt my teaching to the needs and goals of each client, accessing The Pilates Method, Laban Movement Analysis, The Bartenieff Fundamentals, and Yoga Therapy, along with my own contributions to the field of functional exercise, movement therapy, and mindful movement.
I am in the process of writing a book about my work with the goal of developing on-line programs that parallel this project.
So this Blog is for You! I have created it to keep you abreast of my work, so I that can both educate and be educated by staying connected with you!
I look forward to sharing my creative musings as we move along together.
